WHAT IS GOING ON AT THE ABUJA NATIONAL STADIUM?
Recall when the Abuja National stadium was built by the Obasanjo government to host the all african games? that edifice became the beautiful bride after hosting the competition. fast forward to today, what do you see?
This is the abuja stadium when the going was good, lush green grass, aesthetic finishes and lovely ambiance. Compare the above photos with the current state of the stadium today...
The stadium could easily have been rated today as one of the best around the world but due to negligence, poor maintenance culture, corruption and selfishness, this is the pitiable state of a once glorious edifice. somebody is obviously not doing his job or something is wrong with the system. HOME BASED VS FOREIGN BASED... WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL?

Is there any big deal being either a home based or foreign based footballer? This has long been a controversial one in a lot of national teams especially in Africa. The discrimination sometimes causes so much division in the team such that the collective goal of the team is adversely jeopardized. so we ask: what is really the big deal?. is it not the same football played on the pitch? or is it because some play with whites and others play with fellow blacks?
It's about time that the football federation and all the stakeholders come together and develop the game the way it should. they should pay more attention to the real issues of development, proper and timely planning, administrative efficiency, financial discipline and commitment to selfless service for the father land. people want to go out to the various match centers and enjoy a good game of football that is free of match fixing and all the other negative traits that have plagued our football. The abundance of talent at various age levels is a pointer to the latent potentials that abound in the land. So, be they home based or foreign based it doesn't matter as long as patriotism and dedication flows in their veins there shouldn't be further beef about this, shikena.

KESHI VS OLISEH
In case you missed out or lost touch of recent verbal exchanges between two football greats i.e Stephen Keshi and Sunday Oliseh, then let us refresh your memory....
Oliseh had criticized Keshi for taking as much as eight home-based
players to the Fifa Confederations Cup, and accused him of being too
reliant on the Glo Premier League stars.
But Keshi not wanting to let the critcism lie low took a swipe at Oliseh...."”It is a shame that Sunday Oliseh could say a thing like that. He was a
nobody when he came to the national team. He started from home too, when
he came to the national team, I took him as a younger brother. I later
(as an assistant coach to Amodu Shuabu) made him captain and he became a
super star. Who knows what these boys could become in future?”
Oliseh responded back with comments similar to a sunday preaching
Oliseh:" Nigeria is bigger than anyone and for the records sake in answer to Keshi’s erroneous declaration, I was 3 years as a pro in Belgium and a regular player in liege by 1993 when I got my first call-up to the super Eagles and in those days our national league was on ‘fire’, well organised, competitive, balanced and one of the best in Africa. That’s how Clemence Westerhoff and Bonfrere Jo succeeded!" Oliseh declared on his website.
"It is unfortunate that Keshi sees enemies everywhere and maybe it is understandable but the interest of Nigeria’s progress is what we all should be seeking now and I believe making attacks like he is doing is not the right way to go about it, we are way too matured for that, at least I know I am!"
"If he can accept our support and praise, he should accept our constructive criticism in the interest of the country and making enemies left and right is not the way to go, obviously some of us do not learn from the past! The interest of Nigeria comes first than that of Sunday Oliseh or Stephen Keshi" he said.
Oliseh went further to dispel insinuations in some quarters that he had an eye on Keshi's job.
"I can understand that Keshi feels threatened by the possibility of a sack and back stabbing, but my comments should not be seen as coming from a possible successor unless one is desperate, which I thank God I am not!"
Oliseh further made a case for the foreign-based players stating that they ate the best Nigeria has. He further accused Keshi of trying to wage a war against them.
"If you are a Foreign based pro it is not because these foreign clubs want to do you a favour, it is because you are one of the best from your country, simple. By gradually trying to wage a war against these players who ply their trade week in week out at the highest level leagues in the world we are turning our back to our best and waging a war against ourselves, they are Nigerians too I must remind."
"My belief is not that we should not use home-based players, far from it, if Sunday Mba was not at the Nations Cup in 2013 for Nigeria I do not think we might have won it, at least like we did. He however was well surrounded by Victor Moses, Emmanuel Emeneke etc. and made his contributions productive and easier.
“We saw how this poor boy struggled at the Confed Cup just 4 months after doing us proud in South Africa! Oboabona is one of my favourites and with some more polishing would go places internationally,"

On November 29, 2011, Khan agreed to purchase the JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS from Wayne Weaver and his ownership group subject to NFL approval] Weaver announced his sale of the team to Khan later that same day. The terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed, other than a verbal commitment to keep the team in Jacksonville, Florida. The sale was finalized on January 4, 2012 The purchase price for 100% share in the Jaguars was estimated to have been $760 million. The NFL owners unanimously approved the purchase on December 14, 2011. The sale made Khan the first member of an ethnic minority ever to own an NFL team.
In July, Shahid Khan bought the English Premier League side Fulham FC in London from longtime owner Mohamed Al Fayed in a deal that strengthens his links with the British capital, having already arranged for his American football team to play matches here. The deal is worth $300million. Khan has now become the sixth American owner of an EPL club after Manchester United (Glazer's family), Arsenal (Stan Kroenke), Liverpool (John W. The Gunners have gotten off to a bright start at their pre-season games. They notched up a 7-0 scoreline in their first game. If the whopping scoreline handed to the Indonesian side is a pointer to what Arsenal intends to do this season then EPL clubs had better be on the look out. but again for the umpteenth time, Arsenal are known to be "early birds", they get off to a good start and somewhere somehow they loose steam and then they start chasing the rest of the pack. MUCH ADO ABOUT WINNING BONUS
The Nigeria Minister of Sports Bolaji Abdulahi we are told has constituted a committee to examine the bonus issues of the super eagles. controversies over match bonuses have constantly caused disaffection between the Nigeria Football Federation and the players. we are all aware of the most recent one before the team left for the confederation cup in Brazil. how much are the players really entitled to?
It appears that big soccer countries like Spain, Italy, Germany, England, France and Brazil reward players based on performance per match. here is an article culled from goal.com when the teams were preparing for the 2010 world cup

As reported by Marca, the €600,000 that will be awarded to each Spanish player should Spain win this summer's World Cup has drawn controversy from a variety of corners, as it is the highest bonus to be promised out of any of the 32 teams taking part in this summer's World Cup.
Only Argentina's and England's bonus amounts come close to Spain's €600,000 figure. The Albiceleste would be awarded €510,000 per player upon winning, while English players would receive €475,000. In the case that Italy should win the World Cup, the Italian players would earn less than half of what the Spanish players have at stake - €240,000. Brazil would earn even less - €180,000.
Other squads of note are France, who will take €390,000 per player while German players will be awarded €250,000 in the case of a World Cup win (although in the case of the Germans, it has been reported that a large number of those monies will be donated to the Robert Enke Foundation).
If Spain reach the quarter-finals of the tournament, each player will earn €60,000, reaching the semi-finals earns €90,000 per player, while reaching the World Cup final earns €120,000.
